How the internet works

The internet has many servers and routers on it. This is where the websites are stored. Each computer that is connect to the internet has to have a unique address. Also the internet transfer text to number as the computer only recognise numbers 1 and 0, this is called a IP address. As the user types in the IP address into the computer which then stick it onto a package. Then the information goes through different routers until they get to the hub with them tell the router were to find the website. Once the ISP finds the website which it is looking for it sends it to the requested computer. 

Web Server

A web server is a computer system where many websites are stored. For example when I key in a website to the address tab it will go to the server. Then the server will transport it back to the computer.  

Mail Server

A mail server is a computer system where emails are stored. The mail server is created to handle email, image and other attachment to the email. As it is connect to the internet and it sends and receives the email for the person.

                          

         Proxy Server 

A proxy server is used within a work environment such as SRC. They would use this to make sure that the websites are suitable for the student with College. As proxy servers would block website that student should not be on such as porn. SRC currently blocked facebook, twitter at certain times of the day This also help to quickly speed up the internet.

Router

 A router takes information from one network to another. The router also forward data packets to their destinations which is to their based address. As a router searches around to get the address of the website. A router is connect to more then one network. As it is usually has two LANs or WANS or LAN and its ISP’s network.  They are located at a gateway that is place where there are more then two networks.  In additional they are the key device that keep the data flowing between all the networks and to keep the network connect to the internet.

Web Server Application Software

 A web server application software is were other people host their website. It is stored within a hard drive. Every time a person make a request for a  web page the ask for it is send to the web server. It then sends the information back to the computer that send for it.

Mail Client Software

 A mail server is a email application were users can send message electronically. Within emailing there are various items which can be send as attached within the email. For example image, movie, document and etc. there are different types of email application such as hotmail, Gmail, yahoo and etc .

Web Browser Application

 A web browser is a program which is able to changes coding to language that the user of the World Wide Web would understand. Here are some example of browsers:

  Virus Protection

A virus protection is software that is designed to prevent viruses, worms and Trojan horses from getting onto a person computer. It also alert the user that there is virus on the computer.

 

Firewall

Firewall is a software or a hardware that is able to check all the information that in from the internet, network and then other sites that the user goes into as it depends on the firewall that the person setup. As it can filter all the information that come through the internet connect that the person has.
